Professor Shaaban Khalil is a theoretical physicist specializing in physics beyond the Standard Model and the connection between particle physics and cosmology. With over 28 years of academic experience, his work bridges fundamental theory and phenomenology relevant to experiments at the Large Hadron Collider. He is the Founding Director of the Center for Fundamental Physics (CFP) at Zewail City of Science and Technology, where he leads research programs in high-energy physics and cosmology. He also serves as a Visiting Professor at the University of Southampton (UK) and has held research positions across Europe and the United States — including at Durham, Sussex, and Madrid — as well as a Fulbright Fellowship in the U.S.Professor Khalil has made significant contributions to supersymmetric models, neutrino physics, and dark matter, and has authored 200+ scientific publications, along with several influential books in the field. His research has been widely recognized through multiple national and international awards.
Beyond research, he plays a leading role in the scientific community as President of the Arab Physical Society, a Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences, and a member of IUPAP and the IAU. He has also been actively involved in the CMS Experiment at CERN, including serving as Egypt's team leader and link person.Professor Khalil is deeply committed to education and mentorship, having supervised 25+ graduate students, and to advancing scientific research and collaboration across the Middle East, Africa, and globally.
